Estimating Global Trade in Urea
Urea is manufactured in large volumes for use as a nitrogen fertiliser. Urea production requires gas, nitrogen, and water. As a result, the major export countries are natural gas producers like Russia, Qatar, Oman and others.
From a trade statistics perspective, global trade is better measured using import statistics as many Middle East countries, that are significant exporters, do not release timely export statistics.
TradeData International has collected and combined imports statistics from 45 import countries that represent around 95% of world trade. In 2023, our total measured imports of Urea were 45 million tonnes with a value of 18.1 USD billion.
